Lara Martin is a Licensed Professional Counselor and holds a Professional Educator's License from the state of Illinois. She graduated with honors from Concordia University of Chicago with a Master's Degree in Counseling, School Counseling concentration. She also holds a Certificate in College Counseling from the University of California -Irvine in College and Career Counseling. She has gained experience working with young people in multiple venues, from counseling the adolescent population to athletic teams and schools.
Lara's goal is to help minimize the anxiety around college admissions by helping students find a variety of schools that are a good fit academically, socially and personally. She assists students in establishing a logical standardized testing plan and compiling a balanced list of potential colleges. An excellent writer with a B. A. in English and Psychology, Lara enjoys working with students on their college essays and views this as part of the growth and learning process. These steps help reduce the stress around college admissions and help students find a range of schools that are a good fit for them, academically, socially and personally.
Lara also specializes in working with students in planning productive and educational gap year experiences. It is her belief that select students can benefit from the gap year opportunity either prior to entering college or as a sabbatical during the college years. Lara visits 25 or more college campuses per year and has experience working with artists, musicians, engineers, business majors and athletes. Lara tailors her approach to meet the individual family's needs and can begin working with a student as early as freshman year in high school.
Lara is a member of National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC), the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), and the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA).
