Dr. Levin received his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. He studied premed and received a degree in Communication Studies from Northwestern University. Dr. Levin is focused on understanding the root cause of the issues that people face. He uses a variety of approaches to diagnose the cause of the client’s difficulty and to implement concrete skills for improving well-being. He sees his clients’ struggles as opportunities for creating more freedom and happiness in their lives.
Dr. Levin values establishing respectful, supportive, and empowering relationships with his clients. Blending CBT and client-centered modalities, Dr. Levin is solution-focused and emphasizes the importance of coping skills and a positive orientation to life. He skillfully creates a safe therapeutic environment by focusing on understanding the client’s experience without judgment. As important as Dr. Levin’s diagnostic and therapeutic skills is his deep caring for people. His clients know that he truly cares about them.
One of Dr. Levin’s areas of specialty is working with parents on parenting skills either as a parenting coach or in tandem with individual work with their children. He teaches skills about how to handle discipline issues, address family conflicts, and meet the emotional needs of children. He has been a participant at Parent University in Northbrook and created a parenting series for Whole Foods in Deerfield. He has been invited as a parenting expert to the Chicago Children’s Museums “No Kids Allowed” parent education event. He is a certified instructor of the Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) program and does lectures and workshops on parenting skills.
Dr. Levin has worked with people with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, ADHD, school challenges, behavior issues, and parent-child difficulties. He works with the entire family including adults, couples, and children. He sees many boys and men ranging from grade school through adulthood and has a strong ability to connect with them. He has been practicing yoga and meditation for over 25 years and studied Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture to deepen his understanding of holistic treatment. In his free time, Dr. Levin enjoys his family, plays sports with his adolescent boys, and watches movies.
